13 December 2017 – LokaLocal, online travel marketplace, will be making waves in South Korea now that it has been selected as one of the Top 25 winners in the K-Startup Grand Challenge (KSGC 2017).
Of the 1515 start-ups that participated in KSGC 2017, LokaLocal is the only Malaysian start up to reach the Top 25.
Conducted and financed by NIPA of South Korea, KSGC aims to promote an open entrepreneurship in Asia and help start-ups penetrate into the South Korean market.
Now wrapping up its second year, KSGC welcomed teams from 118 countries to Seoul, Korea, where they took part in a four-month intensive accelerator program. As part of this program, teams are given coaching sessions, networking opportunities and access to world-class infrastructure, equipment and services.
According to LokaLocal founder, Chin Yoon Khen, the expansion into South Korea stems from the global fascination for the nation’s distinct local and popular culture.
“Malaysians love Korea. The Korean Wave through influx of Korean music, TV, film, and beauty products has surged over the years. Lokalocal will provide special experiences which are unique in Korean Market to the Malaysian travelers. To do so, we mainly focus on two experiences, K-Wave related experiences and Korean Rural experiences.” Chin explained.
Experiences that travelers can expect include learning to do your make-up with a Korean TV host, exploring the art of bojagi wrapping and even making traditional Korean dolls.
“Our goal is to enable every global traveler to enjoy authentic local experiences at affordable price anywhere. We are here to make each traveler’s trip personalized and memorable, allowing them to feel like a VIP,” said Chin.
