22 May 2018 – LokaLocal is collaborating with Tourism Selangor to run an exclusive two-day tour from 4 to 5 August 2018 to explore the state’s hidden gems, in conjunction with Selangor International Indigenous Arts Festival 2018 (SIIAF).
This is in line with the theme of the festival – “Discover the Hidden Gems of Selangor”.
Aiming to showcase the best of Selangor’s cultural and natural attractions, participants will be able to attend the festival, which shines a light on the heritage of indigenous tribes across Malaysia, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, India and Australia.
Participants can also witness eagle feeding and watch fireflies at Kuala Selangor, as well as immerse in Malay kampung traditions such as batik painting, fishing and paddy field experiences. >> See more
This initiative in harmony with SIIAF marks the beginning of event tourism for LokaLocal, as the popular annual event strengthens the platform’s vision to bring unique local experiences to the public.
Back for its fourth year, the Selangor International Indigenous Arts Festival 2018 takes place at Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam, Selangor on 4 and 5 August 2018.
As the festival’s official partner, LokaLocal is working with Ma Te Sai , a social enterprise that supports local artisans in rural Laos, to raise awareness for the Mekong gem in Malaysia. Artisans from the TaiLeu community will share their traditions through dances, workshops and food at SIIAF.
LokaLocal, which connects people to handcrafted experiences while empowering local businesses and communities, expanded their listings to Laos in March 2018.
Organized by Tourism Selangor, this year’s SIIAF is set to feature tribal performances, cultural exhibitions, food tasting of traditional delights, food trucks and a photo contest. There will also be a Malaysia Book of Records attempt and the unveiling of the fourth traditional home of the Jakun tribe.
The two-day event is expected to attract 5,000 local and international visitors. In 2017, the festival saw 2000 attendees in August.
