12 Best Picnic Spots in Kuala Lumpur for Post Covid-19 Nature Therapy

Thinking of whipping out your picnic blanket? Here are 12 places in Kuala Lumpur where you can enjoy lush views in and away from the city, while spending quality time with loved ones.

Now that we are under the Movement Control Order, Malaysians must stay at home. If enjoying a picnic is on your post-Covid 19 do-to list, you can save this activity for later on in the year.

1. Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam

Also known as the Shah Alam National Botanical Garden, this green lung is the ultimate place to spend time with your family. Not only does it have beautiful views amidst a man-made lake and lush spots for picnic hangouts, there are also other fun activities.

For families with younger children, there is the Aviary and Bunny Park, a mini petting zoo with all kinds of adorable animals. Admission fees is RM3 for adults and RM1 for kids between 6 to 11 years old.

2. Taman Saujana Hijau

It’s no wonder people flock to Taman Saujana Hijau for their picnic and photography sessions. Flourishing with pine trees and emerald slopes, the immaculately landscaped park looks like it belongs in Europe. All you need is a vibrant picnic blanket, basket and mini bites for an Instagram-friendly setting.

They are 3 different gardens here, namely European Garden, Oriental Garden, and English Garden. There are also panoramic views of Putrajaya from the hilltop, and a colourfull array of flowers.

3. Kanching Rainforest Waterfall

Tune in to the sound of nature as you enjoy a picnic right next to a waterfall. Kanching Rainforest Waterfall comprises 7 tiers, but most people set up their picnic spots at Levels 2 and 3. This is where you can swim in the pool and feel the refreshing water against your face.

If you do choose to go hiking, it does get steeper and more challenging from Level 5 onwards, but you will be rewarded by lesser crowd and more stunning views. Admissions are RM2 for Malaysians and RM5 for non-Malaysians, as well as RM2 for parking.

4. Taman Lembah Kiara

Taman Lembah Kiara is great for picnics because of how spacious is. There is a play area, picnic tables and gazebos for you to get adequate shade. You can also stroll around the park, or jog around the lake for a beautiful view to enjoy that will take your breath away! 

The best spot for picnic is next to the river, where you can find children splashing in the water or looking out for small fishes.

5. Perdana Botanical Garden

Perdana Botanical Garden is a popular recreational park in Kuala Lumpur, with a huge lake at the spotlight. It consists of several gardens such as the Hibiscus Garden, Sunken Garden, Laman Perdana and Herbarium. With plenty of lush spaces and aesthetic architecture, it’s easy enough to find a shady spot for a great picnic experience.

During the weekends, it comes to life with locals out for their morning jog, exercise sessions, and photographers. Their lakeside paths make a gorgeous backdrop if you plan to have a stroll.

6. KLCC Park

Enjoy your picnic with the view of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, one of the tallest twin buildings in the world! There’s always something new to see as you stroll around this park.

Lake Symphony is what makes KLCC Park stand out from the rest, as it is a fountain show filled with colours. Be sure to watch the fountain at night as the fountain is brightest at night. Children can also have a fun time at the playground or the public pool.

7. Kepong Metropolitan Park

Kepong Metropolitan Park isn’t just a place for picnics; locals love to fly kites here. Located 30 minutes away from the city, the park also features cycling paths and a lake.

By evening, the park is brought to life by kites weaving through the air. Be amazed as kite flyers do tricks with their toys in the sky! If you don’t have a kite, don’t worry cause the stalls in the park will have you covered. Feel free to lay a picnic blanket and enjoy your meal with your loved ones while enjoying the beautiful view of the lake.

8. Titiwangsa Lake Garden

After a year-long renovation, Titiwangsa Lake Garden is open once more with even more attractions. Tucked in the busy capital, there is a mini water park, maze garden, cycling tracks and the 60m Titiwangsa range canopy.

Overlooking the city skyline, the park has many scenic spots best for these activities as well as picnics.

9. Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM)

Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) may be known for its hiking spots, but you can also have picnics at Sungai Kroh. There is a small waterfall and grassy area here.

Facilities such as shelters, restrooms, prayer space and the cafeteria are provided. This park also offers a variety of activities for you to enjoy such as trekking, camping, bird watching, cycling as well as jogging!

10. Bagan Lalang Beach

Want to feel the sand on your feet, and the catch the sunset? Bagan Lalang Beach is an ideal place for you to chill out. It is popular among locals as a picnic spot – some would even bring their own BBQ grill for that total experience.

Be sure to catch the sunset as it is truly amazing. At the end of the day, you can enjoy a hearty meal at one of the restaurants along the beach!

11. Desa Park City

With a beautiful lake and lush greenery, Desa Park City is an awesome spot for a picnic. If you love dogs, you’ll love that the park here is pet-friendly. You and your pup are sure to have a fun time as you bring them for a wholesome walk at the park. This is the chance for your pet to meet other furry friends, as many people bring their dogs to this park!

Picnic-goers should watch the park in its beautiful sunset, and capture the silhouettes that form amidst twilight. You can even head out to the gazebo to bask in the sunlight.
