Did you know that Negeri Sembilan has a secret hiking spot with a sea of clouds?
Where is Bukit Taisho?
Bukit Taisho is a quiet, scenic hill in Bahau, a small town in Negeri Sembilan. Located roughly 2 hours away from Kuala Lumpur by car, locals flock to this hiking spot for a chance to catch the beautiful sea of clouds phenomenon and reliably exquisite sunrises.
Difficulty Level: Easy
Profile: Rocky terrain, several trails to choose from
Duration: Roughly 40 minutes to reach the peak
Highlights: Sea of clouds (depends on whether it rains the night before), sunrise, Instagrammable spots
Half Day Guide to Bukit Taisho, Bahau
6:30 AM: Start climbing from Bukit Taisho Starting Point
Address: Bukit Taisho Starting Point, 72100 Bahau, Negeri Sembilan
The starting point is located next to a residential area called Taman Meranti, so don’t be surprised if friendly locals greet you as you make your way up. Start early to reach the peak by sunrise.
The climb upwards is really easy. The only thing to take note is that since the paths can be rocky, wearing suitable sports shoes is generally advisable.
There are several tracks with various difficulty levels. According to the locals, Track 1 is the easiest, Track 2 is slightly harder and Track 3 is the most challenging of the lot. Not that they were difficult to begin with! We went for Track 3, and managed to reach the hill stations in about 40 minutes.
Along the way, spot several adorable signboards, and catch your breath while taking in the gorgeous twilight view of Bahau town.
7.15 AM: Reach the hill stations
There are 4 hill stations at the top of Bukit Taisho. In the darkness, you might not be able to see much at first, but you’ll get to see several silhouettes against the brightening sky.
We suggest heading to Hill Station 4 first, as you’ll need to climb just a little more to reach the best sunrise point.
7:30 AM: Watch the sunrise at Hill Station 4
Hill Station 4 is the most spacious station, boasting the most stunning views. With the chilly morning breeze running through our hair, and the sunlight trickling through the clouds, we could imagine ourselves in Cameron Highlands.
We didn’t manage to see the sea of clouds that day. Local hikers shared that it happens when it rains the night before, and in cases like these you’ll have to get lucky. Nevertheless, we were already amazed by the sunrise. Don’t miss the opportunity to take fun photos during the golden hour!
There are plenty of quirky decoration in each of the stations. While making your way down, don’t forget to snap away at the photo stops.
8:00 AM: Check out the other hill stations
The hill stations are all in one row, taking only a short walk to get to the next. From Hill Station 4, you can head down to Hill Station 3, followed by Hill Station, then up a gradual incline to reached Hill Station 1.
Hill Station 3: There is a quirky rest area, with installations like the Emperor’s Seat and Empress’s Seat. There is also a wishing tree where you can tie a red ribbon containing your wish.
Hill Station 2: This station has a garden theme, and resembles an adorable wonderland.
Hill Station 1: The easiest climb to a scenic area with no art installations, just natural views.
9:30 AM: Have breakfast at Nam Fatt Kopitiam
For breakfast, make your way to Nam Fatt Kopitiam, popular among locals for its rich and spicy Curry Mee.
The stall within the kopitiam is run by Mr Pan, who has been in operation for 2 years. They start preparing their dishes from as early as 6am, and often run out around 10am.
The Curry Mee (RM6.00) tastes superb with its aromatic broth. We think it’s pretty reasonable considering that they fill it up with lots Yong Tau Fu!
For a lighter and less spicy option, go for the Gan Lao Noodles (RM5.50). The egg noodles are tossed in black sauce and flavourful minced pork.

11:00 AM: Buy paus at Bahau Sornam Pau Shop
Before hitting the road, stop by this family-run shop to buy some local delicacies. For over 30 years, Bahau Sornam Pay Shop has been selling handmade paus of all shapes and sizes.
Their signature paus are the fluffy Pillow Pau, and Wor Pau. We tried the Wor Pau – the outermost skin has a slightly sweeter profile compared to your usual pau, and it is an aromatic meat combination like the kind in Char Siew Pau.
Traditionalist at heart? That’s okay, there are other types of steamed buns you can bring home.
