CNN Travel has released its list of 19 Best Spring Destinations in 2019 – and our beautiful island state of Penang is on it!
Penang has always been a favourite for travellers near and far because of its award-winning hawker food, heritage wonders and stunning architecture. Now there’s another reason to love Penang: it’s ecotourism gems.
In particular, CNN Travel has mentioned The Habitat on Penang Hill, a lush rainforest that dates back 130 million years. It is said to be an ideal time to visit in spring for an “authentic tropical rainforest adventure”.
20% of the world’s animal and plant species are said to be hosted in Malaysia’s rainforests, so it is no wonder visitors flock to the side of the world to experience the diverse biodiversity and eco activities.
“The Habitat’s canopy walk, home to Langurs or Dusky Leaf monkeys, provides access to rare wildlife and stunning views of valleys, headlands, the city of Georgetown and the glittering Andaman Sea beyond,” said CNN Travel.
Stretching 230m in length on the highest point of The Habitat, the Canopy Walk grants breathtaking views of the surroundings, extending as far as Langkawi, Kedah. There are also nature trails framed by rolling hills and historic bungalows.
The virgin forest reserve at The Habitat is also home to 170,000 of the world’s 250,000 plant species.
We’re incredibly thrilled that Penang has been listed as one of the Best Spring Destinations by CNN! Other destinations include Aegean Islands in Greece, Naoshima Island in Japan, Orlando in Florida and Marrakech in Morocco.
