Go behind the scenes of Laos' first Buffalo Dairy Farm to meet friendly buffaloes, feed calves and make mozzarella cheese in a cooking class.
In Laos, the buffalo plays an important role in the village community. However, few understand how to care for their buffalo using modern techniques such as vaccination, which can cause them to lose infants and catch diseases. The team at Buffalo Dairy Farm aims to support a sustainable livelihood for Lao farmers.
In this experience, you will join a tour of the production facility and participate in activities, You get to make several dishes in a cooking class., before having a meal in the cafe.
There is a morning and afternoon session, and the meals you have will depend on the session. In the optional evening tour, you can join in the nightly ritual of “bringing home the buffalo” at the nearby local village.
This experience is suitable for educational programs, as well as those interested in animal care, and wildlife.
Production Facility Tour & Cooking Class
2 sessions available: 7.30am – 10.30am or 3.30pm – 6.30pm Join a comprehensive tour of the production facility. Watch the herd being milked, feed the buffalo and baby calves. After the tour, join the mozzarella cooking class, where you get to learn how this exquisite cheese is made, along with other tasty dishes. If you have a love for dairy products like cheese and yoghurt, the meal at the on-site café. is one you will enjoy! Walk around the mini-farm and feed the chickens, pigs and rabbits. Before heading home, take some mozzarella cheese and buffalo biscuits with you! Meals differ depending on the session: Morning Visit – Barista coffee, tea or hot chocolate; muesli, fruit & yogurt; baguette, homemade jam & cream cheese; mozzarella & vegetable panini; cheesecake. Afternoon Visit – Either Barista coffee, tea or glass of house wine; ricotta stuffed tomatoes; deep fried mozzarella; green salad with feta & trio of ice-cream or cheesecake.
