Pha Tad Ke is the first botanical garden in Laos, and one of Luang Prabang's most popular natural attractions. Once the former hunting estate of the Lao royal family, the oasis is filled with ethno-botanic gardens, pathways and delicate floras. The garden aims to preserve the natural heritage of Laos by bringing together plants and traditional knowledge of botany. It is hidden across the gorgeous Mekong River.
In this experience, you will enjoy a 15-minute boat ride down the Mekong and bask in scenic river views until you reach Pha Tad Ke Botanical Garden. Explore the gardens, and partake in free activities, including bamboo handicraft, tea tasting, an introduction and orchid talk, and an optional one hour hike to the cave. After you've taken in these activities, consider relaxing for longer at our cafe by the lily pond, where you will be introduced to delicious lao fusion cuisine that is carefully prepared by our chef.
Departs Ban Wat That Pier at 09:00 and 13:00 Returns Ban Wat That Pier at 12:50 and 16:50 You will get to the Pha Tad Ke Botanical Garden on a 15-minute leisurely boat ride from the pier. After a short presentation about the garden, walk through the Ginger Garden and the Ethno-botanic Garden, the centrepiece of Pha Tad Ke. Follow the path through the Limestone Walk and take in the amazing mountainous Mekong landscape. Learn how to make a bamboo stick animal at the site of the hunting lodge of the former royal family. Then continue through the Arboretum, Palm Garden, and Bamboo Garden to our viewpoint that overlooks the rice fields. Stop by the Mist House where you will learn more about the importance of biodiversity conservation. Finish your excursion with an optional orchid talk at Pha Tad Ke Nursery.
Meet at Ban Wat That Pier. If you are in the center of town, then go to the post office. From the post office, you will need to head toward the Mekong River. Once you reach the Mekong river, take a left. 200-300m down you will see the Pha Tad Ke reception office on the left hand side.
