Arrival in Vientiane

When you arrive in Vientiane, a private van will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel for check in. Rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 2

Vientiane Exploration

In the morning, we will visit the key sights of Vientiane. These include Wat Sisaket (oldest temple to have survived the 1828 Siamese war and has over 8000 Buddha statues); Ho Prakeo (former home-temple of the Emerald Buddha statue from the early time of Lane Xang Kingdom until 18th century); That Luang Stupa, (symbolic monument of Laos, built to cover the original small stupa with a piece of the chest bone of Buddha); Patouxay (built to honour fallem soldiers). After lunch, we head to Carol Cassidy (a Lao textiles gallery) and Buddha Park (where the largest Recling Buddha in Laos rests). We return to Vientiane in the late afternoon.

Day 3

Vientiane > Num Ngum > Vang Vieng

We depart from Vientiane by car or minivan to the Nam Ngum Reservoir, which is 100 km away. Stop at a Hmong village to visit the market, then the archaeological site of Vang Xang, built during the Hmong-Khmer Empire between the 8th and 11th century. We will have lunch on a boat restaurant at Nam Ngum Reservoir. After that we will take a boat ride to visit fishing villages, then continue driving up to Vang Vieng.

Day 4

Trekking, caving and kayaking in Vang Vieng

Our first stop is Tham Xang (Elephant Cave), a significant Buddhist temple with gorgeous limestone formation as its backdrop. Close by, there is Tham Hoi cave (Snail Cave), and Tham Nam (Water Cave), which is good for swimming. After a picnic lunch, we trek to the Hmong village of Phathao, surrounded by paddy fields and vegetable patches. Finally we will kayak back along the Nam Song river, where the magnificent beauty of Vang Vieng is all around you. Approximately: 25 minutes transfer, 1.5 hour trekking, 2 hours kayaking, 2 hours caving.

Day 5

Vang Vieng > Vientiane > Wattay airport

After breakfast, take a 4-hour ride to Vientiane, and directly transferred to airport before departure.
