Use this trip as a getaway from the city hustle to unwind and recharge after a busy week. This trek brings you through rice paddies, farm lands and jungle forests. Spend a night at the homestay on the riverbank and get a deeper understanding of the lives and culture of ethnic minorities.
On the second day, kayak down the the Mekong river and explore the holy Pak Ou caves, home to countless amount of Buddha statues. Drop by the weaving and Lao whisky making village before heading back to Luang Prabang town.
Luang Prabang > Huay Leun > Pha Theung > Ban Hadkhor
Starts 8.30am Ends 5.00pm - Depart to Ban Hadkhang then to Huay Leun, which takes us approximately 1.5 hours. - Arrive at a village where our trekking journey begins through local farms and vegetation - Trek through the dense jungle under the canopy of huge trees with orchids, ferns, creepers and more with the company of the delightful sounds of abundant birdlife - Enjoy a Lao-style picnic lunch in the towering jungle, surrounded by the smell of fresh greenery - Trek through a bamboo forest and immerse yourself in the embrace of mother nature - Trek downhill until we reach the banks of Nam Ou river. - Cross the river on a longtail boat to reach the Tai Lue village : a local family will host us for the night. Starts 8.30am Ends 5.00pm - Wake up to catch the sunrise and take in a hearty breakfast that signifies a fresh start of the day - Learn the basics of kayaking and safety instructions. and head off to meet the first easy rapids of Nam Ou river - Along Nam Ou river, take in the view of the majestic steep cliffs and villages almost untouched by modern civilization. - Enjoy a Lao-style picnic lunch at the beautiful white sandbank amidst really amazing surroundings - Feel free to relax and swim in the cool waters of the river or paddle in the calmer section of the Nam Ou and Mekong river - Along the way, watch villagers fishing and harvesting river weeds which is turned into a tasty snack by drying, seasoning and frying - Visit the famous Pak Ou (Buddha) Cave : a culturally and historically significant cave housing hundreds of Buddha statues of various sizes - Continue paddling down the Mekong and stop by the weaving and Lao whisky making village. - Kayak on to Pak Xeung where the truck or “Songtheow” is waiting to transfer us back to Luang Prabang. Approximately: 1 hour transfer and 4-5 hours kayaking
