The Xe Pian National Protected area is famous for its extensive wetlands which are home to rare wildlife as elephants, gaur, sun, Asiatic black bears and the yellow cheeked gibbon. This exciting expedition takes you through this fascinating area on a long but easy trek, giving you plenty of opportunities to see the wildlife and visit ethnic villages as well as the amazing experience of overnight camping in the middle of the jungle!

The Xe Pian National Protected Area (NPA), covering over 240,000 hectares in the southern provinces of Champassak and Attapeu, and touching the national border to Cambodia, is one of the most important nature reserves in Laos. It is home to abundant and rare wildlife such as elephant, gaur, Sun bear, Asiatic black bear, and the yellow-cheeked gibbon, and famous for its extensive wetlands (a RAMSAR convention site).

Day 1


Pakse > Ban Kiet Ngong> Xe Pian National Protected Area

Starts 8.30am Ends 4.30pm - Depart from Pakse to Ban Kiet Ngong via local transport : this village lies on the edge of the Xe Pian National Park and is where we will meet our local guide. - Briefing about the forest, wildlife and different uses of plants for use as traditional medicine. - Begin trekking through the forest and into the nature reserve : watch the wildlife such as elephants working in the jungle - Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch in the midst of the forest accompanied by the sounds of the rustling leaves - Continue trekking through the thick jungle : observe the many different types of birds and if luck permits you may catch a glimpse or two of monkeys passing by - At around 4:30 pm, set up our camp for the night, we spend the night in the middle of the jungle and enjoy a dinner cooked over the campfire! Approximately: 1.5 hours transfer, 5 hours trekking


Day 2


Xe Pian National Protected Area > Phou Asa Temple > Ban Kiet Ngong > Pakse

Starts 7.30am Ends 4.30pm - Early start of the day with a hearty breakfast cooked over the campfire - Discover the Xe Pian wetlands and enjoy the experience of a jungle rarely touched by outsiders - Visit the stunning Phou Asa Temple before heading through a thick bamboo forest - Stop for a picnic lunch and head back to Ban Kiet Nong - Return to Pakse Approximately: 1 hour transfer, 5 hours trekking
