Come and get to learn the making of bamboo basket at a workshop located in Kanthan village, Chemor. It has been 40 years since the operation of handmade bamboo basket production has been started and continued until today. The bamboo baskets have been used for locals to bear items such as vegetables and many other functions.
In terms of its functionality, the basket has to be made from a type of elastic bamboo which is obtained from Sungai Siput with the help of Orang Asli(aboriginals). Local women usually participate in making bamboo baskets as most of them are housewife as they are flexible to adjust their daily schedule, making them as the main human resource in this field.
During the peak era, Chemor has around 10 home based factories that involved in producing handmade bamboo baskets. In the present days, sadly to say, only 1 home based factory left and it has continued to operate despite the increased need of usage of plastic baskets which were cheaper and more resistant compared to handmade bamboo baskets.
