What better way to appreciate the beauty of Penang than to bring it to life through art! Walk with us as we traverse from one historic building to another as we embrace the diverse architecture of Georgetown.
We will be making our journey to Penang's favourite spots as I explain every story of architecture & history existing in every nook and cranny of Penang from a local perspective. As we move along each stop, we will sit down and have a sketching session together where we can draw our unique point-of-view of the sights before us!
This sketchwalk will cover British colonial buildings, places of worships such as temples and churches, and rustic shophouses around Church Street!
Our artistic adventure begins!
Sketch The Past
We will start our journey at one of the oldest street in Penang - Beach Street, where you'll get to see many British colonial architecture buildings along the street. I'll explain the story of the street and buildings, then, we'll sketch it along the roadside together!
Sketch The Present
We will continue our journey to Pitt street - where four local places of worship from different religions - Taoism, Christianity, Hinduism and Islam - are located. This would be the best place for you to see the uniqueness of our multiracial community in Penang. For this tour, you will get to choose your favourite worship building to sketch as your second postcard!
Sketch Penang Shophouse
Finally, we will proceed to Church street. I'll will show you the pre-Second World War shophouses, and share some well-preserved examples of urban structures with you. I'll share with you the way the local authorities conserve and rejuvenate shophouses to maintain our UNESCO heritage value! So then, here's where our third postcard is born. You will get to choose your favourite style of shophouses to sketch!
And if you’re lucky! You’ll get to meet local friends of mine and sketch together!
End of our sketchwalk!
I hope you had a good time learning about Georgetown, see you again soon!
