Hi, my name is Ken and welcome to my humble crib! Born and raised in a Peranakan (Straits-Chinese) family, one my greatest passions in life is cooking and entertaining guests at my home.

For this dining event, I will be serving Peranakan cuisines without any MSG, additives, or colouring - just the pure, authentic Peranakan flavours from recipes that have been passed down for generations within my family.

As a host, I can share stories about the Peranakan culture and the history of Kuala Lumpur, as well as travelling tips of the places that I have been to.

Come and enjoy your meal in my humble crib that offers a cozy and homey atmosphere and we'll have a wonderful time together!

Itinerary

Our grand feast begins!

As an individual who loves cooking, I can cook Peranakan dishes or Malaysian-Chinese cuisines. I will usually serve a scrumptious 5-course meal, and I make sure to only use quality vegetables and meat. Our dishes will be served with fragrant white rice, and our dinner will end with homemade desserts.

Travel notes

I can host a minimum of 4 to 12 guests at a time but if there are more than 10 of you, please write to me and see how I can work it out to suit your needs.

Please allow 4 days booking notice as I need time to look for quality fresh ingredients and Peranakan food will need time to marinate.

    Ken is a fantastic host and storyteller! He served delicious Peranakan food that came from authentic recipes passed down in his family, and it was eye-opening to learn the differences between the Peranakans in different states and how the food reflects that. I love the curry chicken and the Nyonya kuih! He told plenty of stories about his culture and family (some were dramatic and we were really immersed in it). Overall it was an enjoyable evening.

    Food was delicious and Ken was very informative. He has an extensive knowledge of what authentic Nyonya food is. Well worth a visit if you are in Kuala Lumpur, a real must for the solo traveler looking for a unique experience. Thank you for a very enjoyable evening Ken, I will come back again for Mee Siam :)

    Ken是一個博學多才,文化歷史採集者,同時也是個很會說故事的達人。他對自身峇峇娘惹家族的歷史滔滔不絕,同時對娘惹食物的品質與味道有所堅持,在這個行程中除了能嚐到檳城與馬六甲真正古早的娘惹美味,更能在他的古董擺設與舊照片中,透過他的故事進入歷史隧道,了解他清朝貴族祖宗如何遷移在英殖民時期的社會故事。
    他的多元包容表現在他的料理中,最讓人印象深刻的當然是娘惹咖哩雞以及馬六甲的ponyek雞,用多種純正香料與新鮮食材烹調。娘惹料理工序繁瑣,但ken對各種食材的處理手法可不馬虎。大小適宜,味道適中,不如市場的過分調味才吃出故事中的家鄉味。

    另外,不得不讚賞ken給客人的驚喜一個接一個。當我們談到kl哪裡還有純正手作娘惹糕時,他自信的說你吃過他做的就明白。事實證明他並非老黃賣瓜,當平凡無奇的椰絲糕送入嘴裡,咬開椰絲綠皮,那馬六甲椰糖漿在口中爆出,幸福感滿分。

    但對於不那麼好甜食的人來說,那個綠白雙層班蘭糕,更是讓人喜出望外,咸白甜綠交融起來的滋味,入口即化,甜咸搭配爽而不膩,讓人嘴齒留香,意猶未盡。

    邊吃邊聊,夜已深,ken從歷史,文化,食物說到鬼故,信仰,聽他說話很有趣,他就是一個脫口秀娘惹美食家。
