Take a heritage walk virtually from the comfort of your home. Enjoy 360° bird's-eye views of Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown.
Join one of our tourist guides on the fascinating Old Kuala Lumpur: Chinatown Cultural Walk. The virtual tour takes you to one of the city’s historical and oldest section namely Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown, located southeast of the confluence of two rivers. This area has rich past of a diverse society that exists till today.
The tour is a great introduction into the beginnings of Chinatown’s mix community and is perfect for first timers to the city, or for the curious who wish to get a better insight into the rich history, culture and tradition of the area.
Many of the Malaysian Chinese now living and working in Chinatown are descendants of migrants who came to Kuala Lumpur in the 1850s to work as tin miners, merchants, and farmers. Many of the migrants settled on the eastern banks of the Klang River in what was then deep, mosquito-ridden forest.
In today’s Chinatown, history and modernity exist side by side. Some of the pre-war architecture remains and many of the renovated buildings that now house stylish cafés and guesthouses still have their original façades and have retained their character and charm.
Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown is also known for its street markets and food stalls. Your guide will give you an insight into the traditional trades, businesses, and cuisine of a community that has existed in Kuala Lumpur for centuries. You’ll learn about the culture and traditions of the Malaysian Chinese, Indians and Sikhs living in the area.
During the virtual tour, you will hear fun tales about the people who contributed to the growth of the city; tales of chinese migrants, diverse society and traditional trades. Enjoy the colourful backstreet murals among the 30 other attractions.
