Boat building is a traditional trade and dying art that has been practised in Malaysia for centuries, particularly in the fishing village of Parit Jawa in Johor. Many of these boat builders inherited the skills and legacy from their forefathers. The vessels are carved and constructed by hand, using traditional methods. It can take months to complete each boat and each boat can cost up to a million. They are then supplied locally and to Singapore.
