As far as staycations go, glamping seems to be the “in” thing, especially among us millennials. For city folks who are eager to escape from the city, the only thing better than luxuriating in nature is doing so amidst modern comforts.
That said, glamping does not necessarily mean that it has to be at the other end of the spectrum. It doesn’t have to be all about luxury and fancy beds.
When we found out about this Off Grid Glamping Adventure Experience, we were surprised by how it sits comfortably in between. There’s the typical camping activities within a natural environment (which traditionalists would probably appreciate), but with some modern elements.
Let’s just start by saying that you get to escape from the city on an adorable, whimsically decorated van!

Getting There
The pick up point is at REXKL, along Jalan Sultan Ismail. Those who grew up in Kuala Lumpur may remember it as the site of a old cinema, but today it is a thriving cultural centre and event space.
You’ll be picked up in the van, which is in itself like a surreal experience. The space is beautifully decorated and full of style. There are buntings hanging from above, as well as picnic baskets, blankets and pillows stacked at the back. It feels like you are in going on an adventure outside Malaysia.
Hai Oh, the driver and guide, will drive to Semenyih and bring you to one of his preferred camping grounds in the area. The journey takes around 1 hour.
Accommodation
Upon reaching the camping site, you’ll pitch your tents next to a river. If you don’t know how to set up tents, no worries! Hai Oh will be there the entire way to organise your stay, run activities, set up a fire, set up the tent and even cook the meals.
There are 2 tents you can choose from:
i) Vintage Tent
Back in the day, A-frame tents were extremely popular. In fact, if you ask anyone to draw a tent, this is how they would usually draw it. Although it is less common now, you’re lucky to have the chance to sleep in one as Hai Oh is a collector of vintage memorabilia, even retro tents!
The vintage tent has a retro, festival vibe so it’ll let you live that ‘childhood camping experience’ you never had.
ii) Modern Tents
The modern tents come in a geodesic design and are better if you want to have a 2-4 friends bunk in together. There is a lot more headroom with a larger space to move about.
Each tent come equipped with memory foam queen-sized beds, and 650 thread cotton sheets. Hey, what’s glamping without somewhere comfortable to sleep on?
Snacks Bar
There is a cabinet with snacks and beverages. On the table, there is a mini stove so you can boil water to make tea and coffee. It’s a bit like being in a hotel room in the great outdoors, if you think about it.
