Learn the ancient art of batik in a hands-on workshop, where you can wax your own design and paint it with fabric dyes.
Malaysian Batik is a traditional textile art of Malaysia, known for its intricate details and attractive patterns. Conventionally it is used on fabrics to make traditional attires, but now batik has been garnering attention in contemporary fashion.
Our batik artist will guide you as you draw your design on paper, then trace it over the fabric using a wax pen and express your creativity by painting it. You can choose to draw your own design from scratch or buy a pre-drawn design. Lastly, you can dry your personal batik masterpiece, iron off the wax and set the dye. And there you go – your very own customized batik.

How to get there
Eszter
It was a nice way to get in touch with local culture. She explained little, since her English is not very good. But showed everything so we were able to follow.
The room was very small, so when suddenly 10 tourists came in to paint, it was already too overcrowded.
Altogether, I would recommend her, the 2,5 hours session is a great experience.

It was an amazing experience for me to have batik painting with Rozana. I was totally overwhelmed by her art at the studio. The hand-on experience also helped me to understand how patient the artists are creating the art.. I had a wonderful and relaxing time there unleasing the artist inside me! I higly recommend anyone coming to Penang and Malaysia experience this class!
