Take a virtual stroll down the Melaka River, where the state was founded centuries ago. Legend has that in 1400, this was where Parameswera rested under a tree during a hunt and noticed a mouse deer kick his hunting dog into the river. Thinking it a good omen, he built his empire here and named it Melaka, after the tree he rested under.
The river also plays a strategic role as a trade route, earning it the name 'Venice of the East'. Today, you can see old world shophouses, historical bridges and street art along the river.
